Why do we need an enriched curriculum at BSI?
Research has shown that gifted and talented students need an enriched curriculum to thrive.
Why do parents raise money for a public school?
The Department of Education in New York City does not recognize G&T students as having special needs, and as a result BSI does not receive additional funds because of its G&T status. In fact, BSI receives the lowest possible per pupil funding for a NYC public school.
Why are additional teachers and specialty teachers so important?
As Donna is fond of saying, “it’s a game changer.” More certified teachers in our classrooms means a higher teacher to student ratio, differentiated learning, and children that are both academically and socially successful.
How much should I contribute?
We ask parents to donate as generously as they can, but we also work with the school to calculate what funds are needed to make up the difference between the funds the school receives from the DOE and the funds needed to provide all BSI students with the school experience they need to thrive. The suggested yearly contribution is $1,500 per student.
How will the money be used?
The funds contributed by BSI parents pay for the programs and additional staff that make BSI one of the most sought after public schools in New York City.
Why contribute now?
Donna is growing our wonderful school by seeking out talented staff and engaging enrichment programs, and the sooner we can tell them we have the funds, the sooner they can start planning the next academic year.
